David Lynch in "The Soul Detective"

A new David Lynch film is always cause for celebration. David Lynch as actor/interviewee in a weird avant-garde (if that term means anything in the future/present of 2009) short film from Brazilian filmmaker Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro. As is sometimes the case with short or surrealist films, there are lots of ideas in the short worthy of exploration in a longer form story. Psychic detectives are all the rage these days with shows like Medium and The Ghost Whisperer, but in capable hands of sterling creators like Lynch and Pinheiro the subject becomes mysterious, lyrical, frustrating, uncertain and emotionally damaging. It's not melodramatic, its exploratory.

Along the way we get some insight into David Lynch's creative process, so at a mere ten minutes this is a film that really delivers. Check it out.
