Apple Breathing New Life Into iPhone

Apple unveiled a plethora of exciting new features to the iPhone on Tuesday. The announcement of over 100 new features has the Geek Tech world buzzing.

I love my iPhone. However, often I've found myself frustrated that seemingly simple, obvious abilities were not available or possible. I knew I wasn't alone, and it looks like Apple is finally bringing improvements, and many new features that it's users have been hoping for.

It might not be the most talked about favorite new feature, but I'm most excited about the coming ability to sync notes. It's boggled my mind that note syncing hasn't been a feature since the beginning. Finally, my iPhone will have that ability.

Another feature that seems so basic and obvious, and hence, it's omission up until now has been glaring, is the ability to copy and paste. Finally, Apple is answering our prayers. The ability to copy and paste text and photos is coming.

Another feature that pretty much every other cell phone with a camera in existence has, but the iPhone did not have, is MMS. The ability to send photos to other mobile phones directly is basic feature that many switchers to the iPhone missed. Now MMS is finally coming to the iPhone. Unfortunately, MMS will only be available for the 3G model, and not the original.

Another feature coming to the iPhone is the ability to tether. What this means is that you will be able to connect your iPhone to your laptop, and use the iPhone's internet connection get your laptop connected and online. This is an astounding feature that many will find useful. But Apple hasn't released enough detail. I can't imagine that AT&T will be loving this bandwidth-sucking feature, so we'll see what the pricing and/or limitations are when reality rears it's head.

Another feature that will be insanely useful is Spotlight. Users of OS X will know how great Spotlight is. Having it on the iPhone, with the ability to search all content on the iPhone will be fantastic.

Another feature that I'm looking forward to is the ability to send and receive files between iPhones directly. The usefulness of this is obvious.

There are dozens and dozens of other tweaks, improvements, features and apps that will really take the iPhone to the next level. To be honest, as ridiculous as it may sound, the iPhone was starting to feel a little stale. Apple's announcement today I think will inspire confidence among iPhone users. The upcoming new features will breathe new life into the iPhone for sure. With Blackberry and Palm starting to play catch-up, it looks like Apple is going to keep striding forward in the race to innovate.
