New music: the gift that keeps on giving.
Here's a collection of the songs that have been constantly on repeat on the my iPod.
Asher Roth - "Lark On My Go-Kart"
Despite the controversy* around Roth, one can't really knock the skill. The Eminem comparison is inevitable, but doesn't really apply. Similar senses of humor are injected to both of their catalogs, but Eminem is far more technical. Also, I think this may be the hip-hop song to mention "blumpkins."
*By "controversy," I mean the Internet is going nuts over Roth essentially because he's the first white suburban rapper who doesn't try to hide it by faking his background (Vanilla Ice) or doing his best to embody a white interpretation of black culture (think Malibu's Most Wanted). His style is that of a typical college student/"bro." (Not "bro" in the "brotha" sense, but "bro" in the "Do you want a shot of Jaeger, bro?" sense. Some people care about the good times/frat boy vibe. Some don't. Some forget that it should be about the music.
Mando Diao - Welcome Home Luc Robitaille
This one is from 2006. However, it's new to me. Sweden's Mando Diao play a garage rock akin to The Libertines. Great song. What is it with the Swedes and the great music? Is it the harsh winters and they think "Well, I can't go outside. I might as well start a band." First, Abba then Europe, then Ikea, then The Hives--they just keep on giving and giving. I almost feel selfish for not returning the favor.
Clipse feat. Kanye West - Kinda Like A Big Deal
I'm a bit of a Clipse superfan, so the idea of the Thornton Brothers teaming up with Kanye was intriguing. Luckily, Mr. West has abandoned the Autotune on this one which is nice because no one wants someone with a robot voice telling them how they're "kinda like a big deal." I always wondered how long it would be until someone either sampled Anchorman or just quoted it in hip-hop. I have my answer now.
The Cool Kids - The Delivery Man (9th Wonder remix)
Another old one from December of '08. While I enjoyed the original, anything 9th wonder touches is usually a safe bet. I actually found out about this on a drunken holiday-themed pub crawl. True story.
DOOM feat. Raekwon - Yessir!
This is basically a peanut butter meeting chocolate moment. Two great tastes...you know the rest. DOOM's Born Like This is my vote for the best hip-hop record of the year. I could go on all day about DOOM (formerly known as MF DOOM) all day. Raekwon attacks the track with that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ferocity that made me fall in love with him. While DOOM doesn't rap on it, he did produce it. Instant classic.

SANTA CON!
also: i think it's fair to disregard roth based solely on disdain for the glorification of the "frat bro" ethos as a whole.
