Stunning video and tantalizing details have finally been revealed for the upcoming release of The Beatles : Rock Band video game. The game looks like it's going to be a breathtaking explosion of pure fun that is sure to delight both music and video game geeks alike.



It makes perfect sense that a new video game, pushing the limits of what is technologically possible, would revolve around the mysterious, magical world of the Beatles and their music. They were a band that of course pushed the limits of the technology of their own time with an unquenchable thirst for shattering preconceptions about what's possible with music and how it could be made.

The new video game will allow a handful of people to play simultaneously with their virtual instruments, including up to three simultaneous singers, harmonizing. The Beatles often put forth a message of unity and togetherness in their lyrics and so it seems appropriate that this explosive foray into the gaming realm would be a multiplayer affair. Even if you think that's an unreasonably lofty connection to make, you can't deny that a shared love of the Beatles' music is a a great starting point for a good time.

To me, The Beatles are geek bliss. Their music often takes on an almost sci-fi like quality with it's energy, mystery, and it's psychedelic exploration. Lyrics filled with mystifying minutiae to be obsessed over, and melodic twists and turns that sound fresh with every listen. A multi-player, interactive video game with pulsating psychedelic graphics where the players become rhythmically immersed in the Beatles' universe sounds like a winner to me.

The Beatles : Rock Band will be available for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 on September 9th.
