GEEK PROFILE: DJ CRYSTAL CLEAR

Columnist, DuRANT

Found online at
Facebook

Tell me about your column and your latest projects.

I am a Pop Culture demolition specialist who watches way too many bad TV shows, movies, and other important things to review them so you don't have to!

My latest project -- preparing to go to Berlin for a few weeks.

Who or what are the biggest influences on your work and If you could pick one person to collaborate with living or dead, who would you pick?

Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Roy Lichtenstein.

One person? Warhol, because he is a visual art hero of mine. I'm a graphic designer/screen printer who fell in love with his work as a kid. Then I fell in love with his love of Pop Culture, and what he did with it. He was a genius, opportunist, and weirdo who was way ahead of his time.

What album had the most influence on your adolescence?

I'm a DJ who grew up in the 70's & 80's, so I can't just pick ONE album. Here are ten of them, in no particular order;

Purple Rain, Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Songs In The Key Of Life, Tommy (soundtrack), Quadrophenia (original & soundtrack), Head (soundtrack), Outlandos d'Amour, Led Zepplin 4 (Zoso), The Pretenders

*this is off the top of my head and all of them are currently on my iPod. I probably listen to Purple Rain and Wish You Were Here every day.

What were your favorite toys or games from your childhood?

Hula Hoop, Slinky, Wiffle Ball Bat, KISS dolls

What is your pop culture guilty pleasure? (What movie, tv show, band, etc. do you love that you know is awful, but you love it anyway?)

Wow, this is too hard to narrow down. I guess the Blues Brother 2000. It is AWFUL but the music is so damn good. Legends are in all both of them movies, so don't sleep on them people!

If you could own one piece of artwork by any artist, who would you choose and why?

Any of the single Marilyn Monroe paintings. Iconic. The end.

What are your favorite television shows that you feel ended too soon?

Homicide - Life On The Street. I'm sure there are others, but I don't have the time to think about it.

Who is your favorite super hero?

The Silver Surfer.

If you were to have dinner with 5 people living or dead, who are they and what would you serve?

My Mother, Andy Warhol, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and David Bowie. Whatever the hell they wanted, but probably some good pizza or Chinese food because it's pretty neutral. Everybody likes those choices, right?

What fictional character do you identify most with?

Storm

What 5 movies could you watch again and again?

These are movies I DO watch over and over again; Return Of The Jedi, The Blues Brothers (and the sequel, Coming To America, Trading Places, Tommy.

What book or author do you regularly recommend?

David Sedaris, or the "guy" who wrote "Letters From A Nut", Ted L. Nancy

What are your favorite web sites?

Way too many to mention. Seriously, can I get back to you on this?

What are you most looking forward to geeking out over in the coming year?

All of the horrid reality and award shows.
