SCREAMFEST LA - THE REVENANT (review)

The night after his funeral, Bart, a soldier killed in Iraq gets up out of his grave and seeks out his best friend Joey. At dawn Bart's body falls to the floor, only to reawaken the following dusk. He and his buddy decide that he is a revenant: an articulate zombie that needs to drink blood to arrest the decomposition of his body.

Written and Directed by D. Kerry Prior
Starring David Anders, Chris Wylde,
Louise Griffiths, Jacy King

This horror-comedy successfully incorporates the "bro-mance" genre to its mix and what results is a thoroughly enjoyable movie. If you take a couple of Kevin Smith-type characters where one of the leads happens to be a zombie, you will understand what type of film this is. David Anders (Heroes, Alias) proves that he doesn't always need to play a brooding villain, and Chris Wylde holds his own as the slacker friend who helps prevent his best friend from decomposing. Zombie effects, especially some decapitated heads, are first-rate, showcasing director Prior's background as an FX maven.
