SHOOTIN' THE SH*T WITH KEVIN SMITH: THE BEST OF SMODCAST (book review)

Shootin’ the Sh*t with Kevin Smith:
The Best of SModcast
By Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith's latest is nothing more than a collection of transcripts from his podcast that he does with his regular producer Scott Mosier and the occassional guest from his entourage of Jersey boys.

I used to be a big fan of Smith and his films, but unlike the auteur, my tastes have matured and my interests aren't exactly the same as they were 15 years ago. I often find his work outside of films more interesting and I've listened to podcast irregularly, and found it somewhat entertaining.

Smith's greatest talent might lie in the fact that he is a consummate storyteller. He is funny, engaging and brutally honest. Unfortuately, reading a transcript of those conversations can range from laugh out loud hilarious to dull and uncomfortable. The awkward stammering that can be dismissed when listening is accurately reproduced with no editing or clean-up.

If you like Kevin Smith, his movies or his sense of humor, you most likely will enjoy this. If you don't or are on the fence, this certainly isn't going to win you over.

Snoogans.
