Loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft's story "Herbert West-Reanimator", this was the first (and arguably) best film in the Re-Animator series from director Stuart Gordon.
Originally conceived as a stage play, and then as a half hour television pilot, Gordon and his creative team retooled the pilot into a one hour format and then wrote an additional twelve episodes before teaming with producer to develop the property as a feature film.
Jeffrey Combs played West the film became a cult hit with two sequels, and returned for two sequels, Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator.
