WHEN ART AND REALITY MEET

You Have a Little Something on Your Face, Ma'am (artist Patricia Piccinini)

I have to give a great big thanks to the Blog of Francesco Mugnai for inspiring this post. As a fan of weird and creepy art, nothing makes my heart beat faster than witnessing the public being confronted by life-size, realistic sculptures that repel as well as awe the viewer.

Kind of like this:

Ron Mueck

As a former art critic, I longed for creations that freaked me out and made me question my own mental capacity because, let's face it, if it doesn't piss you off or make you uncomfortable in some way, then it really isn't art.

Safe art is boring and predictable. A sculpture of a horse embedded into a wall is not:

Maurizio Cattelan

See what I mean?

Art that is alive makes us feel infinite, that the possibilities in life are limitless if only we are able to imagine them.

Because wouldn't you rather see and experience this:

than something like this:

Am I right?
