Gamers love to have options, and although there are plenty of alternate models of balance boards compatible with the Wii, only one has the marketing sense to call itself PREMIUM.
The Snakebyte Premium Fitness Board ($69.99 retail) comes in the traditional Nintendo matching white, but it’s the slick black model you’ll want to get your hands on. It goes best with what’s probably the coolest factor of the board – two blue LED sensor lights that activate to confirm your connection with the machine. I had to resist the urge to pretend I was stepping on to the Tron game grid each time. I was quickly brought down to Earth by the cons of the board.
Although it’s a good idea, the built in scale (which works without the need for Wii interaction) is pretty inaccurate. I tried it on several surfaces, and reset the display each time and got varying, albeit flattering, weight read-outs. It’s also hard to read, in any lighting condition.
Using the board with Wii Fit also had its pros and cons. The good news is that ultimately I found the board to be more accurate and sensitive during all Aerobic Games, Strength Training and Yoga exercises. Using the Snakebyte on the game’s initial body test was less impressive, determining I had lost over twenty pounds. Unless the Nintendo board weighs the twenty pound difference, the switch to the Snakebyte set a new record for my 921 day profile. I highly recommend this miracle weight loss plan for the spirit, but I can’t say it’s all too accurate a claim physically. If it wasn’t for my recent weigh-in at the doctor last week, I’d put my faith in the Snakebyte.
For its ability to fantasize a slimmer Todd, I give this one props. For its ability to impress the Tron nerd within, I highly recommend it. Who can argue with good form over function?
