THE DEEP: HERE BE DRAGONS GN Introduces All-Ages Underwater Adventure Series

I get lots of previews of lots of upcoming independent comics, and the quality is really all over the place.  While I can appreciate the effort and enthusiasm, most come across as amateur.  Even worse is when the attempt is made to gear something toward a younger audience.

In many creators minds, all-ages and accessible usually equals dumb.

Which is why I’m really excited about the new graphic novel The Deep: Here Be Dragons, coming from 2011 Aurealis-Award-winning Gestalt Publishing.  Written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by James Brouwer, The Deep: Here be Dragons focuses on the adventures of the Nekton family, who for generations have explored the sea.  These aquanauts explore the depths of the ocean aboard their state-of-the-art submarine, The Arronax, and this story finds the Nektons investigating a series of monster sightings.

With solid writing and art, The Deep deserves all of the acollades and attention that it deserves.

For more details, check out a preview after the jump and the official webpage HERE.

The Deep is distributed by Diamond Distribution (order code JUN11 1131)  in the USA with a RRP of $9.95 and will arrive in stores August 4th, 2011.
