I was approached in early January by Benjamin Shahrabani at Com.x about providing a quote for their graphic novel, Seeds by Ross MacIntosh, that arrives in stores this week.
Ben described the book to me as, “The autobiographical story of how Ross and his family were affected by his father’s cancer; beginning with the diagnosis, then taking us through the journey of his father’s decline.”
At the time, it was just several weeks away from my own father losing his battle against advanced Alzheimer’s and thought that although it might be an emotionally tough experience, I’d be happy to read it.
I did so twice immediately and sent Ben a quote that appears on the back of the book:
Ross Mackintosh has done an amazing job chronicling the intellectually logical and emotionally illogical experience of watching a parent become terminally ill. SEEDS is a comfort for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one and a testament to what makes the comics medium so uniquely special. A must read.
I’ve re-read Seeds several times since then and can’t stress enough how good this book is. After the jump, check out the first ten pages of Seeds, exclusive to FOG!
