ELVIS PRESLEY Biopic Finds It's Director
THR is reporting that John Scheinfeld has been hired to direct Fame & Fortune, an adaptation of Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business, the 2007 biography written by former Presley bodyguard Sonny West and biographer Marshall Terrill.
The project is scheduled to begin casting in late fall with a possible 2012 release date.
Scheinfeld wrote and produced Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him) and The U.S. vs. John Leenon, two fantastic documentaries.
Who is Harry Nilsson is currently streaming on Netflix.
Presley has been the subject of countless documentaries and telefilms, including 2005's Elvis starring Johnathan Rhys Meyers (Mission Impossible III, From Paris With Love) and the 1979 TV movie of the same name, which starred Kurt Russell (Escape From New York, Deathproof) and was directed by none other than John Carpenter (Halloween, Starman). Still, Presley's life story has never made it to the big screen... until now.
Besides being one of the most famous singers of all time, Presley also starred in 27 films throughout the 60's.
With biopics such as Ray and Walk the Line doing so well critically and at the box office in recent years, it was only a matter of time before they made one about Presley.
