PIERCE's Dad is Cast in COMMUNITY

The NBC comedy Community has cast the part of Pierce's presumed-dead father.

TVline is reporting that Larry Cedar, best known as Leon from HBO's Deadwood, will play the role of Chevy Chase's father. The funny thing is that Cedar is actually 12 years younger than Chase.

Creator and exec producer Dan Harmon says, "instead of getting an actor who is actually old enough to be Pierce's dad in real-life, we're going to a younger actor who we can make feel old in different ways." He likened it to the show Golden Girls in which Bea Arthur was older than her TV mom. Harmon said "we're taking the Estelle Getty approach."

While Pierce may have left the study group at the end of the second season, he is going to have to encounter his father that the audience may have thought was dead, but he is clearly very alive and now a part of Pierce's life.

In addition to Cedar, Jerry Minor, who showed up at the end of last year's finale as a janitor, will return this season. His character believes that Troy has great abilities as a janitor and will try to convince him to join the janitorial staff at Greendale Community College.
