Steve Carell has been tapped to play in the thriller Foxcatcher.
Variety reports that director Bennett Miller is developing a film based on the true story of the murder of an Olympic wrestler. Apparently Miller has been working on the project for the last four years.
The script is written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman who also wrote Capote. Miller will be directing and producing with Jon Kilik and Anthony Bregman.
The full story of the murder goes something like this. John du Pont was a schizophrenic, paranoid and also heir to the du Pont chemical fortune. He built a training facility for wrestling and created Team Foxcatcher on his estate in Pennsylvania. In 1996 he shot and killed David Schultz who was an Olympic gold medalist.
While the two were friends, there was never a motive found for the crime. Du Pont died last year in prison at he age of 72.
Carell is currently filming Great Hope Springs with Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Production on Foxcatcher is expected to begin next year in March.
