THE ROCK Returns to the Ring

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson laid the smackdown in his return to the squared circle, last night, at the WWE’s Survivor Series event, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The fall classic is a landmark event in The Rock’s career as he made his professional wrestling debut at the 1996 Survivor Series which was also held in the Garden. Johnson won his first WWE Championship at the 1998 Survivor Series, becoming at that time, the youngest world champion in history. Last night’s match was his first in 7 1/2 years with his last match being at Wrestlemania 20 on March 14, 2004 in Madison Square Garden.

The building has special meaning to Johnson because his grandfather, ‘High Chief” Peter Maivia and father, Rocky Johnson gained their popularity because of the matches they had in the Garden.

The star of Fast Five joined forces with rival and WWE flagship superstar, John Cena and defeated R-Truth and The Miz (Mike Mizanin of MTV’s The Real World) when The Rock pinned The Miz with his patented People’s Elbow.

Post match activity saw Johnson deliver his signature maneuver, “The Rock Bottom” to Cena after a verbal confrontation. This match was made by WWE chairman Vince McMahon to set the stage for The Rock vs. John Cena match that will headline Wrestlemania 28 on April 1, 2012 at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL, Johnson’s hometown.

Johnson will star in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island scheduled to be released on February 10th, 2012 and will play Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, to be released June 29, 2012.
