Steven Soderbergh Isn't Your U.N.C.L.E. Anymore Either

After losing first George Clooney, and then Bradley Cooper, as leads in THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., now director Steven Soderbergh has exited the project as well, per The Playlist.

Though Soderbergh (OCEAN'S 11) and writer Scott Z. Burns (THE INFORMANT!, CONTAGION) had been developing the film since 2010, Soderbergh exited the project after disagreements with Warner Bros over casting and budget.

Latest word was that Soderbergh wanted Channing Tatum as the lead after directing him in MAGIC MIKE, but now that Soderbergh's out I doubt this casting will happen. The Playlist claims Soderbergh's top choice for the two leads were the incomparable Michael Fassbender (FIRST CLASS, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) and Joel Kinnaman (THE KILLING), but WB wanted A-listers.

No word yet on if the project will continue with another director or die a director-less death.
