Well Go USA Releases HELLDRIVER and A BETTER TOMORROW to DVD & Blu-ray!

Well Go USA has announced two exciting releases, the remake of John Woo's classic A Better Tomorrow and Yoshihiro Nishimura's Helldriver.
Kim Hyuk (Joo Jin-Mo) lives the fast life as a high ranking mobster in the port city of Busan, South Korea. His closet friend is fellow mobster Lee Young-Choon (Song Seung-Heon). Even though Kim Hyuk seems to be on top of the world, he is haunted by the memory of leaving behind his younger brother Kim Chul (Kim Kang-Woo) and mother as they attempted to flee into South Korea from North Korea. Kim Hyuk’s mother was beaten to death and Kim Chul imprisoned after they were caught by North Korean authorities.

Kim Hyuk then travels to Thailand with new gang recruit Jung Tae-Min (Jo Han-Seon) for a meeting with Thai gangsters. The meeting turns out to be a set-up, planned in part by Jung Tae-Min. Kim Hyuk is able to shoot his way out the meeting, but he is later caught by the Thai police and imprisoned. When good friend Lee Young-Choon hears of what happened to Kim Hyuk in Thailand, he goes to the Thai gang’s holdout in Pusan to kill their boss. During the shootout Jung Tae-Min is shot in the leg.

Three years later, Kim Hyuk is finally released from prison and travels back to Busan. He finds his close friend Lee Young-Choon washing cars now and has a limp leg. Jung Tae-Min, the man that betrayed him, has climbed up the mob ranks and is now a feared crime boss. Furthermore, Kim Hyuk’s younger brother Kim Chul has arrived in Busan and works for the Busan Police Department. Meanwhile, Kim Chul keeps close tabs on Jung Tae-Min as he attempts to take down their gang.

Debuting on Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack and DVD November 8th,  A Better Tomorrow, also features deleted scenes, a photo gallery, behind-the-scenes interviews with director Hae-sung Song and the film’s actors, and a 30-minute interview with executive producer John Woo.

After the jump check out the details and trailer Helldriver coming from the Japanese Splatter King Yoshihiro Nishimura.

Get Ready, Tomorrow NANOWRIMO Begins!

Ides of March.  April showers.  May Flowers.

All overrated.

Especially in comparison to November, which is officially NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month.

But, what is it?

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

Director Brad Bird Says INCREDIBLES 2 Will Happen... When He Finds The Right Story

Brad Bird (IRON GIANT, RATATOUILLE) is hot off directing his first live film in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL, but that doesn't mean he's left animation behind for good.

In fact, Bird admitted to Movies.com that the only reason Pixar has yet to make THE INCREDIBLES 2 is that he can't find the perfect story:
"To say that I’ve had trouble [coming up with a story] is to say that [a sequel] has been my pursuit. I haven’t really been pursuing that."
See what else Bird had to say after the jump!

I Want My Apple TV

It is revealed in the just-released Steve Jobs biography that the next big industry-altering device to be unveiled by Apple could be an Apple TV.

Not the Apple TV we’re used to - the small device that attaches to a TV - but an actual Apple-branded TV with a screen, with similar guts to the the current Apple TV, and more.

Jobs revealed to his biographer that when it comes to TV, he thinks he’s “cracked it.”

Can Apple revolutionize the TV industry the way they have the computer, phone, and music industries?

EVIL DEAD Remake Update: This Time Drug Withdrawal Is The True Evil

Now that we know that Fede Alvarez will direct and Diablo Cody (JUNO, JENNIFER'S BODY) will write the EVIL DEAD remake, more details have begun to emerge.

Bloody Disgusting has the scoop on several of the film's details. Just as in the original film, the new EVIL DEAD follows a group of friends who stay at a remote cabin, finding the "Book of the Dead" and unleashing Deadites galore.

This time though, the lead character is taking his younger sister to the family's cabin as an intervention so she can get through her drug addiction. As with true addicts, going through withdrawal makes her seem insane, which makes it so her friends are unable to tell she is actually possessed.

Learning from Movies: EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN

I’ve got nothing against Evil Dead.

If we’re being honest, though, Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn are basically the same movie, but with the second one having a bigger budget (by about $3 million).

That’s because Stephen King was such a fan of the first film that he convinced Dino De Laurentiis to finance the second one.
I’ve lost track of the number of movies that pay homage to the Evil Dead series. In particular, the low-angle camera shot racing over the ground comes up in lots of movies.

Just in time for your Halloween - humor, horror, and lessons after the break.

James Cameron Gives An Update On FANTASTIC VOYAGE Remake

Deadline was able to corner James Cameron and squeeze out some intel on the progress of his produced remake of FANTASTIC VOYAGE.

Cameron is pretty busy with AVATAR 2 and 3, so he won't be directing, instead handing the reigns over to Shawn Levy (REAL STEEL, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, DATE NIGHT):

“I gave him my idea about how this should be turned into a love story and he’s really run with it.”

Writers Claim They Will Only Make BEETLEJUICE Sequel If Michael Keaton Is Front And Center

FOG shared with you months ago that David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS) were writing a sequel for BEETLEJUICE. Now, the pair have confirmed that they will only make the film if Michael Keaton stars as the title character.

Seth Grahame-Smith told EW:

"When Warner Bros. came to us about it, we said the only way we’d do it if we got Tim [Burton’s] blessing and involvement, and we got that, and the star of the movie has to be Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, and it’s a true continuation 26 years later. Not just throwing him in as a cameo going, “Hey, it’s me. I endorse this movie.” We’re not there yet [with Keaton] because we don’t have a film to present to him."

The Brothers Coen Offer Justin Timberlake A Role In INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

The Coen Brothers, who I would argue are two of the greatest writers/directors in the history of cinema, want Justin Timberlake for their new movie about the 60s folk scene in Greenwich Village, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, per Variety.

Oscar Isaac (Standard in DRIVE) landed the title role last week, playing a character loosely based on Dave Van Ronk whose book THE MAYER OF MACDOUGAL street is the basis for the film.

Incredibly Rumory Rumor -- Klingons Main Foe In New STAR TREK 2

Doc Brown made an awfully good Klingon, don't you think?
CBM reports that a popular Brazilian STAR TREK website has been contacted by a "reliable source" who identifies the main foe in J.J. Abrams' second Trek outing (which will NOT be called STAR TREK 2).

Says the goole translated excerpt from Trek Brasilis:

A rumor that Trek came to Brazil from a very reliable source reveals that the villains of the new film will actually ... ... ... Klingons and we will not have time travel.

DVD Lounge: Pirates & Pooh (dvd review)

It's a cold and rainy day here on the East Coast, with snow on it's way, so here are two reviews to consider before cozying up in front of the television.

One is a magical animated film.

The other is a terrible installment to a sea-faring franchise.

FOG! Chats With GRIMM Creators DAVID GREENWALT & JIM KOUF

The names David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf should put a smile on the faces of any fan of genre television.

Greenwalt's credits include Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Jake 2.0, The Commish, The X-Files, Profit, Angela, Eureka and Moonlight, while Kouf's name has been on Angel, Stakeout, The Hidden, Rush Hour, The Ghost Whisperer and National Treasure.

The friends first collaborated together in 1985 on the film Secret Admirer, and tonight, their latest project, Grimm debuts on NBC.

I had the opportunity to screen the Grimm pilot, which was not only a very interesting take on the material (and one quite different from the similarly themed Once Upon A Time), but also sets up an intriguing number of possibilities (Steve Ahlquist will be publishing a thorough look next week).

I had the great opportunity to speak with David and Jim, who were able to answer a few of my questions regarding the series.

Nothing is what it seems, and it will take a group of cold-blooded criminals led by Elias (Ben Mendelsohn), who have been planning a vicious home invasion for months, to bring the Miller family together. ANGRY CRAB IS NOT GOING TO TAKE YOUR CRAP ANY LONGER

Two things about the following video confuse me:

1. Why are there crabs hitchhiking in the middle of what appears to be a Russian road?

and 2. Are crabs so pissed off at us humans that they have left the safety of the ocean to come kick our asses on dry land?

Regardless of why the crabs (which are huge by the way...like Chernobyl big) have decided to walk away from the open sea, one thing is for certain, they hate us and will do anything they can to rip our faces off (which isn't that hard considering that morons-like those in the video- seem incapable of NOT putting them near their tender skull parts).

And judging by their demeanor, I, for one, am a bit scared that any day now, I will be leaving my home only to find a crab waiting for me outside of my house, arms crossed, and in a very temperamental mood.

And I'm pretty confident that it will, indeed, bitch slap me.

Watch the video after the break and tell me you think differently.

Smallville: Random, Awesome and WTF?! - S2E5: Nocturne

There's a freaky emo-boy roaming the darkness, leaving poetry in graveyards and he's got a thing for...wait for it...

Lana friggin' Lang, the Bella Swan of Smallville.

Seriously, are there any other girls in this town?!

PAUL WALKER May Star in DISTRICT B 13 Remake

Banlieue 13 is a movie that heavily features Parkour and is a French action film. Now Paul Walker may be starring in the American remake of the film.

A NICE LITTLE MOVIE TO GET YOU INTO THE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT...'Night of the Bloody Apes'

If you enjoy dubbed Mexican horror films about a dude who turns into a homicidal rapist after his dad gives him an ape heart, then I believe that I found a lovely little flick for you (and you would think with that incredibly specific cinematic fetish it would be difficult to find a film) called Night of the Bloody Apes.

Filled with over-the-top gore, the proper amount of misogyny and of course, Mexican wrestling, this movie is overflowing with just about enough revulsion that it will entertain the entire family for years to come (think of it as A Christmas Story but with more blood).

Just imagine what kind of tradition you will be creating for the young ones when they settle in to watch a guy in an ape mask pop out an eyeball and then violently hump the socket...Golly, you just can't buy cherished memories like that am I right?

After the break is a trailer for the film.

Happy Halloween!

The Clothes Make The Nerd

I recently had engagement photos taken.

Sure, I proposed to my fiancee Christmas morning, but with the wedding not happening until October 2012, it's a long amount of time to keep people on the wedding hook.

We figured that getting photos done about a year away made sense. Kick off the yearlong countdown with something cool.

This week we saw the shots, taken by our friend Jillian. Simple, classy, beautiful. Quaint, New England factory-town locations, suffused with sunshine and autumn colors. The fiancee, of course, gorgeous.

And me?

I look fine, but I ask myself, “How nerdy do I look?”

Take A Look At The New THREE STOOGES

The Three Stooges are coming back and now we get a look at just what they look like.

Larry, Curly, and Moe look pretty much the same as they did many years ago. A while ago you may remember that we posted the silhouetted teaser poster for the new film from the Farrelly brothers. Curly (Will Sasso), Larry (Sean Hayes) and Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) can be seen in this new pic right after the break.

HORRENDOUS HOLIDAY CAKES NOW IN DELICIOUS BOOK FLAVOR...I Love The Taste of Pulp!

Do you enjoy looking at pictures of decorated cakes gone horribly wrong?

I know I do and, on a personal note, nothing makes me happier than seeing a misspelled cake sitting in a corner of the bakery fridge all lonely and sad.

(Probably because it's marked down to a ridiculously low price and therefore I can shove an entire sheet cake into my gaping maw with the phrase "Hapy Birfday Mikel" written in gel on the top for, like $6...yummy).

Anyway, if you are interested in partaking of an entire book dedicated to baked goods that have disappointed consumers then Wreck the Halls might be something you wanna pick up.

Because nothing is funnier than seeing something like this:

Especially since you know it made somebody cry.

After the break is a trailer for the book...I could really use a misshaped brownie right now.

FOG! Chats With ChromeSkull: LAID TO REST 2 Director ROBERT HALL

As the founder of special effects house, Almost Human, Robert Hall has been working steadily since the early nineties on such projects as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Superbad, Fanboys, Pineapple Express, Quarantine, Devil, Paranormal Activity 2 & 3, NBC's Grimm and the upcoming John Dies at the End.

But his talents go beyond that, writing and directing three films: Lightning Bug, Laid to Rest and it's sequel, ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2.

Robert took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to FOG! about his work, his influences and why he hates the word, "iconic"

First Looks & Trailers : Mission: Impossible, Muppets, Lorax, Arrietty, & More!

Quite a few trailers came out recently that you may or may not have seen. Here's a roundup of the latest trailer and teasers and some bonus first pics.

We got all styles of trailers for you today. Animated, Action, Comedy, it's all here. The Muppets have given us another parody trailer. Animated movies The Lorax and The Secret World Of Arrietty both give us first looks at whats to come from completely different styles of animation. And finally the theatrical trailer for the next Mission Impossible. Watch them all after the break. And I'll throw in some first images just for fun.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK INTO THE POOL...No, There's No Pee In It, Just A Shark

This isn't going to end well
In this parody trailer of shark movies, one thing is for certain...if people just listened to that really smart guy, then no one would ever get eaten.

But then again, if they did heed smart guy's warning you wouldn't have a shark movie that takes place in a swimming pool, so I guess those scantily clad pool party partakers should just go ahead and cannon ball straight into the shark's mouth for my entertainment.

The funny thing about this faux movie trailer is how I could see this showing up on Syfy's schedule...I guess when you've sat through Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus several times, a movie about a shark in a swimming pool doesn't really faze you.

Trailer after the break.

Toy Review: Welcome to Your Nightmare NECA’s Freddy Krueger Is Here To Keep You Awake

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street.  I preferred that series and its child murdering dream demon Freddy Krueger over the likes of Jason, Michael Myers and Leatherface.

One of my favorite images in the original movie is the sequence where Freddy reveals himself to the character Tina in the alley.  With his arms stretched grotesquely beyond the reach of a normal man’s (much like a satanic Stretch Armstong… I may have to copyright that) it is one of the most iconic visuals in the Nightmare series.

And the toy company NECA is the first to give us this moment immortalized in plastic.

THE HAUNTING POETRY OF SUZANNE SOMERS...As Read By Kristen Wiig

Suzanne Somers is, as you all know, an incredibly talented woman who we are lucky to have in our lives.

But did you know that in 1980 Ms. Somers set pen to paper and wrote the most amazing poetry that the world has ever read?

My god! The beauty, the fluidity that is Ms. Somers' grasp on the iambic pentameter, the brutish reality that is....dog hatred?

Here is just a sample of her work:

Sometimes I wonder if there’s enough love to go around

With all the pain and longing

But one thing is sure

If anyone has any extra love

Even a heartbeat or a touch or two

I wish they wouldn’t waste it on dogs.

Absolutely wonderful!

After the break, partake in more of Suzanne Sommers' poetic journey through Kristen Wiig as she reads from her book Touch Me.

HOLLYWOOD HATES STEVE BUSCEMI And Wants Him Dead...A Lot

I don't know what Tinsel Town has against the remarkable face of actor Steve Buscemi, but it seems that in his vast career, when they want his character dead, they make sure that they kill him in a way that is as uncomfortable and unappealing as possible (especially when it comes to his head...they really seem to hate his head).

In this compilation video of Steve Buscemi deaths you will see just how far Hollywood will go to keep the actor in a pool of his own blood at all times (or brains...remember what I said about his head?) and trust me when I say that the dude dies a lot.

The reasoning behind this desire is unknown, but if you ask me, I think Hollywood is a bit intimidated by the man because when they gaze into his big eyebally-eyes what the see reflected back is their own evil (I'm only speculating here) and they can not live with that realization.

So off with his head (with various shotgun blasts apparently).

Now, if only I could understand why they want him to hump Kelly Macdonald....hmmm.

Video after the break.

Fox Is Making INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequels With or Without WILL SMITH

Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are just finishing up their back-to-back sequels for the 1996 film Independence Day, and the movies are being made even if Will Smith doesn't join in.

According to Vulture, Fox started working on a deal with Smith in 2009 when he wanted $50 million to shoot both ID2 and ID3. While nothing has been settled, the studio and writers are moving on with the project and getting the scripts perfect.
