Comic book writer Warren Ellis has two different projects that are currently coming together.
Ellis’ comic Red, which was adapted last year with an amazing cast that included Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich, currently has a sequel in development.
Deadline reports that Gravel has been picked up by Legendary Pictures for Tim Miller to direct. Ellis is onboard to executive produce with Rick Alexander. Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell are working on the script.
And, news has also broken that Ellis has teamed up with producer Vivek J. Tiwary to create the adventure/thriller miniseries Ascension for the BBC.
Gravel is published by Avatar Press and is centered on William Gravel a British S.A.S. soldier who also has some talent for dark magic. He uses his skills to have supernatural beings fight for his clients, all in an effort to just make a little more money.
The miniseries project Ascension is set to have Luther star Idris Elba in dual roles. The story would revolve around “the history and future of astronomy and mankind’s impulse for the stars”. Elba would be playing the Egyptian Imhotep in 3000 B.C., as well as, “a brilliant astronomer in the near future.”
Tiwary developed the concept for the show with his wife and Ellis will be writing the script.
