One of the things that keeps me from going to more kid-friendly flicks is that they are all happy-go-lucky and nothing bad ever happens in them. I tend to like my movies steeped in reality where everyone is depressed and underemployed just in like my world so that I don't have any false hope that things will get better.
Because of the sappiness that envelopes kids movies like a warm loving hug, children walk into them thinking that the next 90 or so minutes of their lives will be filled with happiness and fart jokes, so it's nice to see a movie like The Odd Life of Timothy Green kicking those kids in the balls and forcing them to accept that at any moment they will wither and die like a plant (see, Timmy is basically plant material and kicks it in the end...Hey, I said there were spoilers).
The following video illustrates perfectly the moment that children learn that the world is a horrible place and all that waits for us is death.
