Smallville: Random, Awesome and WTF?! - S7E12: Fracture

Lex and Lois track an amnesiac Kara to Detroit, raising the debate over which city is actually safer, Motor City or Smallville.

Gotta say, the answer’s not exactly clear cut.  But we’ll let Smallville take the title since a gunshot wound to the head in Detoit leaves Lex in a coma and only Clark linking with his mind can save him.

And cowbell, naturally.

The Random:
1. Once again, Lex gets shot.  It’s like the new car destruction of the show.  You’d think heading into Detroit of all places, he’d have been a bit better prepared for something like that considering, well, it’s frikkin’ Detroit.

2. Project: Intercept is pretty cool little, if wildly unethical, program put together by LuthorCorp that allows interrogators to link up with a suspect’s mind to get answers.  If not for the ACLU, this would totally speed up trials…well, if not for everyone using it tending to die, too, but whatever…

3. Lionel gets some props for covering for Clark and Chloe saving Lex by giving the credit to Ollie and some “healing technology” from Queen Industries.  He then tries to go even further and tells Lex he loves him, which predictably results with Lex ignoring him.

“Lois, for the last time, it’s only Detroit.  What’s the
worst that can happen here at night?”

The Awesome:
1. The linked up mindscape between Clark and Lex has a genuinely creepy, almost Nightmare on Elm Street, type feel to it and it’s all very well done and seeing that little Lex keeps trying to avoid being killed by older Lex in his psyche gives a lot of insight into what’s going on inside Lex’s mind.  Best part?  Lex’s dark side forcing Clark to watch him having animal sex with Lana.  Heh.  That’s just funny.

2. The whole mystery of Veritas begins here, and we see Lex’s memories of Lionel going all Ike Turner and smacking Lilian around to protect his secrets.  You know this is coming into play soon and it just got real up in Smallville once again.

3. The final scene between Lex and Clark really reinforces the old nature vs. nurture argument once more as Clark knows there’s still a piece of good within Lex but Lex is becoming so far beyond gone into that dark place and his last words to Kara about getting her “treatment” for her amnesia just hammers it all home.

“Wait, Clark, stick around.  You’re gonna love this
next thing she does to my penis.”

The WTF?!:
1. Again, what exactly does LuthorCorp do?  Where does the money come from?  Because it seems most of their projects are either super secret and shady or tend to blow up, rendering them unstable.  Basically, they’re the PEPCO Utilities of the military-industrial complex.

2. Chloe has gone from just using healing tears to now being a female Jesus, raising people from the dead with a touch.  Seriously, what the hell is going on here?  Is this really what we’re going to do with her character?  I suppose it fits considering she came back to life after 18 hours all on her own.

3. For a guy who was afraid to play football for fear that his powers might hurt someone, Clark certainly has no qualms about taking a risk by pushing a stack of junkyard cars down a few feet from the bad guy and then picking him up and tossing thirty feet into glass.  Head first.  Yeah.  Because that’s using prudence…

“All right, Lionel, for the finale of my act, I’m gonna need you
to grab me a cross, a few nails, and maybe a prickly crown.  Cool?”
