BEING HUMAN: "I'm So Lonesome I Could Die" S3/E4 (review)

By Julie Browning
This week's episode of Being Human opens with Josh (Sam Huntington) and Nora (Kristen Hager) being roused from their bed at 3 am to a loud party in their living room.  It seems that Aidan (Sam Witwer) has found alcohol to be a magic elixir in more ways than one.

Not only does it help kill the pain from the loss of his son Henry (Kyle Schmid) to the deadly vamp virus, but hey, people are more willing to come back to your place and let you suck their blood if you buy them a few drinks!

In the aftermath of the party, Nora tells Josh that she has a "thing" after work. He presses~she tells him she must go to her parents' home for mom's birthday. She wants Josh to stay home and babysit Erin (Lydia Doesburg) and NOT clean up Aidan's mess.

Which of course, is the first thing Josh does as soon as she's out the door.

When Aidan emerges, looking quite non-hungover, Josh tells him that he really wants to spend the rest of his life with Nora and asks how to approach her father. He decides he has to meet Nora's family, and tells her later that he's going with her, and she can't stop him.

The whole clan is more than a little worried about Aidan's recent risky behavior, and Josh suggests that Adian go back to work. Because, yeah, being in a hospital around sick people and lots of blood is the perfect place for a vampire. I still get a kick out of the fact that 3 of our 4 roommates~the ones who actually kill people, work in the health care profession.

Sally (Meaghan Rath) hangs out at home with Erin, after having a nightmare about killing a whole group of people from her past. Erin suggests that Sally get a new identity and split Boston. This gets Sally thinking about how to obtain one. Stealing the social security number of a deceased infant seems like a good place to start.

When Sally takes Josh and Erin to meet her family, Aidan and Sally hit the town..sort of. They go to a biker bar, where Sally daintily sips from the largest margarita glass I've ever seen. Aidan not only buys a round for the whole place, but he eats peanuts! Too funny to see a vampire swill beer and eat peanuts. When Sally returns from the powder room, Aidan is gone. On leaving the bar, she sees a big scary biker in the street bleeding from the neck. She calls 911 and then heads home to chew Aidan's ass for snacking on the locals and ditching her in a seedy bar.

We see him on the stoop, having an internal montage of all the people who are dead now because of him. She gives him what for about his behavior.

Meanwhile, at the home of Nora's parents, it doesn't take long to see why she didn't want to take Josh to meet them. Covering up his Star Of David necklace is the first clue. Walking in to see beer cans all over the coffee table is the second. Nora's brother RJ greets them at the door, but Nora's dad isn't able to even grunt a hello. Things are very awkward and uncomfortable and mom makes mention of Nora's horrible ex who put her in the hospital as "that poor boy," leaving Josh in disbelief.

Nora sneaks Josh off to a quiet bedroom to explain that her folks don't know the truth about her ex, or about her. She admits to Josh and not only did she kill this ex when she was a wolf, but she also killed the missing pureblood were-twin, Brynn. Josh reminds her that he loves her unconditionally, doesn't judge her and they share a very tender moment.

In yet another flip-flop to a different scene, we see Aidan wake up to Sally straddling him with a stake poised above his chest. If you wanna die, let's just get it over with. Is there something happening here beyond scaring a friend out of a suicidal slump?

Back over to Nora's place. Josh and the World's Best Dad are on the porch. In an adorable and archaic move, Josh asks Dad for Nora's hand in marriage. In true caveman fashion, Dad simply says, "Well, you know what they say, if you want to know about the girl, just look at the mother."~Nice.

A lot takes place for the roommates the next day: Josh is happy to see Aidan applying for his old job at the hospital. Nora's brother RJ comes over with a half empty 12 pack to celebrate the engagement. Trouble is, it hasn't happened yet. She goes out to get her brother some coffee, only to have him offer the 15-year-old Erin beer and end up on her bed with her. What a classy family! After a brouhaha that ends in RJ being gruffly asked to leave, Erin decides to sneak out, leaving Josh and Nora alone for a while. She hints that they just can't take on anymore, leaving Josh wondering just what to do about proposing.

Sally sneaks into the funeral home to see if she can find an identity to steal, and is caught by the young mortician (Bobby Campo). Apparently Sally has charms that are also supernatural, as instead of calling the police, he offers Sally a job, and offers to pay her in cash.

In our final scene, Aidan is back to work at the hospital, at the bottom of the totem pole, being stuck on the night shift. But what a fortuitous turn of events. There's a very tasty interesting new long-term patient. A boy with the dreaded "bubble boy" disease. Mmm! Yummy! Be sure to tune in next week to see how Aidan gets his fangs on some of this gourmet germ free blood.
