Kickstarter Korner: Jamal Igle Brings Back MOLLY DANGER For Book 2!

Welcome Back! Stop the Kotter music, cue the Kickstarter Korner theme! We’ve been gone for a while but when a really special Kickstarter project comes across the ol’ bullpen here we get out the bullhorn!

Jamal Igle (Vice President & Director of Marketing at Action Lab Entertainment, Supergirl, The Ray and G.I.Joe among many more!) is seeking to bring back his award-winning, all ages positive teen action hero Molly Danger for Book 2. Book 1 raised $50,000! The extra funding lead to a full cast audio production of the book, and that will be happening here as well.

Molly “the princess of finesse” is a powered 10 year old, who has been a 10 year old for two decades. There are plenty of unanswered questions after the first book, and fans are eager for the answers!

The Kickstarter campaign has already launched and is live through Sunday, May 17th.

FOG!: Thanks for joining us, Jamal! We’re pumped to see this Kickstarter go live, and of course it is always a pleasure to check in with you. How are things?

Jamal Igle: I’m good, just busy as usual. I’m still finishing up some work for various publishers while running the Kickstarter, so it’s my standard juggling act.

For those that don’t know — care to tell fans what is so special about Molly Danger? I mean besides being an inspirational pre-teen hero for all ages?

Molly is a girl who seems to have it all: Fame, fortune, superpowers but underneath that she’s a very lonely girl.

Her seeming immortality keeps her separate from the average person.

While she loves her life, she wonders what it would be like to be normal.

So for me, Molly is an awesome opportunity for me to explore a character who is searching for her self.

It’s a lot of fun to explore.

We all can understand a busy workload — how is it balancing Action Lab Entertainment responsibilities with working on this new volume of Molly Danger?

Like I was saying before, at this point I’m used to it.

My freelance workload is easily as heavy, but working on Molly isn’t a chore, or a job, its personal. That makes the late nights and all of the logistics for putting a project like this together worth it.

I just re-read Volume 1 and nearly forgot how much fun it was. What does the second book have in store for us? Your Kickstarter Vid teases her secrets will be revealed. Will that put her in danger?

It puts everyone in danger. Book 2 picks up 9 months after the end of Book 1, and Molly is starting to push her luck a bit, and her boundaries. She’s beginning to question everything about her life and who she is.

Unfortunately, Austin is forced to try and be a disciplinarian, not a comfortable role for him. Meanwhile, we learn about who Father (who was introduced in Book 1) is, and what his connection to the Supermechs and Molly actually is.

Will we see Molly and Brian become friends? It seems like that is something she needs, a family and friendships around her. Why has she been so secluded from this type of life?

We do, but that’s part of the tension of the book. She and Brian being friends is against the rules because of her activities as a hero. Until now Molly had been kept isolated because D.A.R.T. is afraid that someone will get hurt in the crossfire. There’s another, deeper reason as well.

Molly is practically immortal, she’s seen the people around her grow old and die, while she remains the same. Some people can handle it, some people can’t but no one ever seems to wonder what kind of effect it has on Molly herself, and that’s one of the themes of the story.

Are you using the same creative team on this book, including Juan Castro on inks? We loved the action and expressions in the first book.

Yep, same creative team, bearing replacements. Juan especially has worked with me on G.I.Joe and Sensation Comics, so we’ve got a pretty good relationship.

Your Kickstarter for Vol. 1 blasted past $50k. Will lightning strike twice? I’m willing to bet on it, these are no exaggeration the types of comics I’d like to see more of on the shelves!

Thank you for that. I would love for it to make its goal and so far we seem to be on our way. You can never predict how it’s going to work out but I have my fingers crossed.

How are the ‘secondary’ market sales on Vol.1. You obviously have digital and Amazon sales as well as the direct market to consider after the Kickstarter books are done and shipped.

They’ve been very promising and the critical response has been amazing.

Also, I’m curious about the audio book segment of Vol. 1 & 2. Are you involved with the production on those? Way cool! Especially hearing about the Daredevil / Netflix accessibility going through this week!

I am, in a sort of advisory capacity, but the script will be adapted by Elaine Lee of Stardust / Starstruck fame.

It’s a fun process to be able to work with actors to bring the book to “life” so to speak.

Where can we find you online, Jamal? Any last words? What’s Molly’s favorite food, BTW? Besides ice cream!

You can find me at JamalIgle.com, MollyDanger.com, on Facebook/Twitter, etc. at Jamal Igle.

And Molly’s favorite food? Meatloaf, man..she loves meatloaf (laughing).
