THE ART OF PAN Reveals a Reimagined Neverland

First conjured by author J. M. Barrie and appearing in his 1902 book, The Little White Bird, Peter Pan became the main character in Barrie’s 1904 stage play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.

In 1911, Barrie adapted and expanded the play’s story line as a novel, Peter and Wendy, which placed the character and it’s storyline firmly into popular culture.

The story of Peter Pan has been adapted to film several times including a silent film in 1924, a Disney animated film in 1953, a quasi-sequel, Hook, from director Steven Spielberg in 1991, and a live action version directed by P. J. Hogan in 2003.

Now, on October 9th, director Joe Wright explores the origins of the character in Warner Bros.’ Pan starring Levi Miller as Peter, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund as Hook.

To coincide with the film’s release, our friends at Insight Editions have released their book, The Art of Pan, which provides a visually rich, behind-the-scenes look at this thrilling new take on the timeless story of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.

This beautifully illustrated book provides a comprehensive inside tour of director Joe Wright’s Pan. Featuring a dazzling selection of never-before-seen concept illustrations, sketches, storyboards, and other preproduction materials, The Art of Pan reveals how Wright and his artistic teams have reimagined the classic characters and world. Insightful interviews with the director and key members of the cast and crew, including Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, and Amanda Seyfried, with additional commentary included from Adeel Akhtar and Levi Miller, make this book a must-have for anyone who has ever longed to revisit this world with Peter Pan as their guide. The Art of Pan was developed under license with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

As with most art of film books, it’s a rare and fascinating look behind the magic, providing its readers a chance to sample pre-production concepts and ideas that are often not used, but nevertheless enlightening and inspiring.

After the jump, check out some gorgeous spreads from the new book, available now!
