Five friends Lucy, Margot, Ashley, Eva, and Beth are having an overnight “get together”. While dealing with interpersonal and relationship a masked killer targets drama the group.
Ugh.
Really?
Ok so this obvious attempt to be a “horror comedy” slasher parody has absolutely nothing the least bit creepy about it nor does it evoke a single laugh.
To make things worse when you look it up on IMDB it is listed solely as a “horror” film, which certainly isn’t true. I understand that this is a very low budget affair boasting a budget of only $6,000.00 and went in giving it the benefit of the doubt but The Slashening clearly fails itself in the one department that costs the least, its script.
The movie is overly simplistic and repetitive while trying to get by on crude humor that was delivered with all the conviction of a narcoleptic mid nap. I am normally one who loves crude humor and am a huge fan of the slasher sub-genre but this film just seems like an insulting cash in.
Oh and I hadn’t even brought up the theft involved, no not the time I spent watching it but on the soundtrack. A few cues sounded vaguely familiar but there was no mistaking Ennio Morricone’s theme to What Have The Done To Solange? which wasn’t credited in the end but is definitely in the movie.
It appears that Troma are releasing The Slashening and that is low for even them, this film is sure to disappoint their target demographic looking for gore, laughs, and T&A as the humor is non-existent, the film makers attempted to cleverly subvert expectations by hinting at T&A while constantly cutting away, and the few gory scenes don’t make up for how bland the rest of the film is.
Sorry Toxie, but I’ll skip buying this one.
