It’s Alive: The Television Reboots of 2016

The cemeteries of TV history are filled with great dramas, comedies and serials all plucked from the primetime schedule well before their prime.

Shows with steady fanbases, but lagging ratings that were killed before they had the opportunity to blossom.

Or in some cases, shows that went past their prime and found themselves running on the fumes of nostalgia and the former glory of what they once were.

In 2016, a handful of former primetime glories and favorites will return from the grave, returning to audiences with fresh storylines, a few fresh faces and another chance at life.

The X-Files (Fox)

Probably the most highly anticipated returning show of the season, this must-watch sci-fier of the ‘90s hopes to duplicate the success that once made Fox a major rival to the Big Three. Considering that original cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning to the roles that made it difficult for them to attend Comic-Con, this looks to be a success even before it starts.

Arrested Development (Netflix)

The true Frankenstein of the TV world, this show only rivals Family Guy and Jesus with the amount of resurrections it has received. Critics and fans rejoice as the Bluths return in full form in a 17-episode run, which will debut in Summer 2016.

Fuller House (Netflix)

The sugary-sweet sitcom that made a household name of the Olsen twins and ruined Bob Saget’s career as a raunchy stand-up comedian returns via the streaming service.

Watch as Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey try to explain to DJ why their sister Michelle has mysteriously disappeared from the family home. College? Overseas marriage and/or job? Becoming a media mogul and doesn’t need the money to continue with the Tanner lifestyle.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (TBA)

You can thank Joel Hodgson on this one.

Thanks to the most successful Kickstarter campaign of all time, MST3K is returning to television with a 14-episode run.

This time around, Patton Oswalt joins as the son of TV’s Frank and Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester, daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester.

Prison Break (Fox)

Prison Break‘s Dominic Purcell and Wenthworth Miller as seen currently on The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

After a decade-long hiatus, the one-time hit drama will finally get a season five as Fox gears up the serial for a March debut.

The series will continue the original storyline as fans get to check in on their favorite jailbird Michael Scofield.

Ducktales (Disney XD)

Life is like a hurricane, and fans and kids of fans alike can rejoice their favorite Duckburg residents once more are the Disney Afternoon staple returns to TVs in 2016.

Uncle Scrooge McDuck and Huey, Dewey and Louie will all return to fight off the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell after 25 year hiatus.

Gilmore Girls (Netflix)

Yes, it appears Netflix is on a mission to right all the wrongs of TV past by bringing back every great show they can.

Seriously. They are doing God’s work.

The fast-talking, coffee-drinking overachieving Gilmore gals Rory and Lorelai return to the small screen in a four-part miniseries that will span a year in Star’s Hollow.
