Mobile has become such a dominant presence in the life of everyone, that figuring out which apps are out there is a challenge. So much so, that it’s nearly impossible to wade through the Android and Apple store without feeling overwhelmed.
And although apps are fantastic delivering news and information, there’s something to be said for using your mobile device as a source of entertainment. Here are five of the essential apps you should have on your device for when you want to take some time to yourself and just have some fun.
1. Mobile Casino Games
It’s like having Vegas in your pocket. Casino games including blackjack and poker have a huge following and audiences have continued to explode and games such as online blackjack and online poker have a huge fan following. There are hundreds of apps, but M88 Asia, has one that has a huge selection of options and games.
2. Dots & Co.
Without a doubt this is one of the most addicting games I’ve played in recent memory. It’s challenging, very addictive and fun.
My only complaint is that at a certain point you can’t move up or complete unattainable tasks without a certain amount of tokens, which vary in price from .99 cents to $99.99.
There’s also a less involved version called Two Dots that doesn’t require any additional purchases until you reach some of the very high levels.
Why should you ever be without stuff to watch? Not only is Netflix the host of hundreds of thousands of hours of television and film, they are also the producers of a wide variety of critically successful original content including series such as Orange is the New Black, Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones, House of Cards, BoJack Horseman, Love, Grace and Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Master of None, Bloodline and the hottest series of the summer, Stranger Things. It’s all there and ready to stream on your smart phone or tablet.
There used to be a time when the music on your mobile device was limited by the space that you had. No longer. With Spotify, you not only have the ability to search for any track, artist or album and listen for free but you also can make and share playlists. If you shell out money for a premium subscription (approximately $10 a month), the app features an impressive 30 million-song catalog (adding approximately 20,000 songs a day). The only gripe is some artists (Taylor Swift, Prince, Garth Brooks, Tool, Bob Seger, Pete Townshend, Thom Yorke) won’t allow their music to be streamed on the service.
Fox Television’s official app features clips and assorted episodes of currently running programs. That’s pretty standard these days. But it does have something that sets it apart from any other entertainment platform: Every episode of The Simpsons ever. That’s right; 27 seasons of one of the funniest, sharpest and entertaining series in the history of television. More than astounding, the fact that this exists gives hope that the world is a good place.
