In stores next week is author Andy Heidel’s book, The Cocktail Guide To The Galaxy, which includes over 100 fun and easy to make recipes – these cocktails are simple to make with no crazy ingredients.
Heidel is the notable bar owner of The Way Station in Brooklyn, NY. A true mecca for nerd culture, The Way Station has found its way on to numerous lists of the best sci-fi bars and is even complete with a TARDIS themed bathroom.
The book features more of the themed cocktails Heidel’s patrons know and love and is filled with pop culture references from Metropolis, to Guardians of the Galaxy, to Star Wars, and everything in between.
And thanks to our friends at St. Martin’s Press., we’re sharing the Blade Runner themed cocktail, the “Blade Rummer” with Forces of Geek readers!

I’ve drunk things you people wouldn’t believe. Whiskey and cough syrup on fire off the shoulder of I-95. I quaffed a glittering gin and tonic in the black light near Hauser’s Gate. All those cocktails will be lost in time, like tears… in…my brain. Time to cry.
1 part spiced rum
¼ part Chambord
1 part orange juice
1 part pineapple juice
Splash of lime juice
Pour all the ingredients into a medium glad filled with ice. Stir, and dream of electric sheep.
Rum runners, unlike Blade Runners (who chase down Replicants), transported rum from the Caribbean to Florida during the Prohibition era. Like most drinks, the Rum Runner was created by a bar that had an abundance of its main ingredients – in this case, rum and banana liqueur. I, being a sane man and not a masochistic cocktail guide writer, didn’t include banana liqueur in this drink. Also, Chloé hates bananas.
