This is another Tim Seeley written “Prelude to the Wedding” issue.
This one is a bit more madcap than the preceding ones. I mean, just looking at the title, you know you’re in for something different.
It plays like a Looney Tunes cartoon.
The issue starts off with the Joker coming out of a building wearing a tuxedo. From there he goes about his nutty day. He talks about what he’s going to do to Batman on a cell phone. But he’s so crazy, is he even talking to someone?
It’s really anyone’s guess at this point.
Then, Harley Quinn runs him over with a car.
Not enough for you?
Well, then Harley Quinn hits him with a big mallet. Then, Harley puts the Joker into a death trap that is filling up with pudding (get it?).
Then, the Joker gets free and she beats him up. But for what reason? Harley Quinn claims it isn’t about her love for him?
So why is this all happening?
It’s not a terribly clever twist on why she is holding the Joker up. Seeley gives us a bunch of fluff and while it’s not bad it does give you a sugar headache. There’s not a lot of plot and it’s easy to read but it doesn’t add up to much in the end.
Basri is a decent enough artist. The art is well designed and unique and appropriately nutty. With a better script, he may eventually be a hot commodity. His Joker is especially unique and adds a bit of class to this book.
Overall though, it just feels like filler. This could have been a lot more entertaining. Instead, it just feels sort of flat.
