Raven has had quite a time adjusting to her new home in San Francisco living with her Christian Aunt Alice and family. It’s not all bad, except for her evil Dad Trigon popping up occasionally and ruining everything – as he does!
This is the synopsis for Wolfman’s return to the character in two successive limited series by DC. The New Teen Titans‘ origin hasn’t been touched but Masterful Marv has gone back and explored some of Rachel Roth’s past and the past of her mother Angela Roth aka Arella.
We’re dead in the middle of the story here at issue #6 (I’ve got to start picking one-shots) but to get caught up is pretty easy if you are familiar with 2016’s Raven six-parter.
Much of the cast is the same, she’s adjusted as an empathic daughter of a demon can be in a new school!
The story opens up with Trigon having the upper hand on both Rachel and her mother and the other daughters of Trigon rising up against the demonic patriarch.
A mysterious observer in the time-bending Wintersgate manor with his sidekick leopard named Merlin observes the action through a fireplace portal. He witnesses Trigon skewer his daughter but Raven escapes through time and space to team up with her sisters to quell the demon Trigon and return him to hell. This seems to work but not without some time ripples!
Next up, The Shadow-Riders reveal themselves, as if Trigon wasn’t a big enough threat!
Now I know all of this is a mouthful, but hey, I will take Raven in SF with some timey-wimey dark magic demon stories any day! Make Mine Marv!
Great, classic superhero storytelling by He-Man artist Pop Mhan in this book, by the way. Great stuff. So glad to read these stories of Raven as we learn more about her background from the creator nearly 40 years after she was spawned from the classic Wolfman/Perez team!
