The Red Hood’s battle against the Penguin rages on in this issue!
Jason has had it with him and they are antagonizing each other! It’s delightful! Lobdell clearly shows their dislike for each other in a wonderful way. It’s strangely emotional as well.
This issue also focuses a little on the changes going on with Bizarro.
The book opens in fact, with Bizarro watching old videos. It seems like something strange is going on with him. It’s even causing issues in his relationship with the various members of the team. Can he get himself under control?
Then, we get into the story with Red Hood going against the Penguin.
The Penguin has opened up his site in Gotham called “The Ice Patch.” It’s a new Atlantic City type of place along the Gotham boardwalk. People are lined up for free food! The Penguin is making a self congratulatory speech.
Then, the Red Hood invades the place and makes his presence known.
The Red Hood then starts kicking the stuffing out of the Penguin for what he did to his father, Willis Todd. The Penguin has no idea who he is. Jason then takes off his mask and shows the Penguin who he is underneath. The Penguin just laughs at him.
Then, Jason does something unexpected.
I didn’t see the twist coming but man, is it brutal. Jason crosses a line and it’ll be interesting to see how Lobdell is going to handle this one. Seriously. It’s completely brutal and expected. I’m impressed DC let this one happen.
Dexter Soy remains one of my favorite artists in comics. His work is so underrated, it’s criminal. He perfectly illustrates Lobdell’s story. They are only getting better as a creative team. And this book is only getting better. This is one of the more exciting books on stands each month. Well done.
