‘Catwoman #2’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by Joëlle Jones
Published by DC Comics

Joëlle Jones has an excellent take on Selina Kyle. The way she writes the character is truly perfect. It’s almost as if she was put on this earth to chronicle her adventures. This issue proves that theory even more.

Catwoman spent last issue looking for a copycat of her. She spent all of this time making a new identity and it was all for nothing.

The idea of a copycat really angered her, so she decided to track down who it is!

The opening sequence has Catwoman going up against a whole ton of copycats which is hilarious.  The sequence is super nuts and lasts about the first third of the issue.

Catwoman eventually captures one of the doppelgängers. She tells Catwoman that they were told that this is part of an audition. That leads us to find out who is after Catwoman and what they plan to do.

This villain is out of their mind as well. We see how the villain handles people that they are disappointed with. There is a scene with a hand and a hammer which is a bit brutal.

But Jones handles it well, with both class and distinction.

The last pages feel like something out of a James Bond movie but with Selina Kyle in the lead. I love how it’s handled and we get to see that Jones has indeed become a very capable writer. The last page leads us to believe that the next issue will be full of suspense and action. Just the way I like it.

The graphic design of each page of this book is something special as well. The art is fluid and tells the story beautifully. It’s clear and concise and I just love it. The colors by Laura Allred are just great too.  There’s so much energy. The only complaint I have is that it moves the issue a little too quickly like last issue. It’s a small complaint but again maybe it’s because I want more.

Still, this is an excellent book. I am excited to see where Jones takes us and what she has in store for us next. It’s well done and I’m invested in this story completely.

RATING: B+
