‘The Joker/Daffy Duck #1’ (review)

Written by Scott Lobdell, Joey Cavalieri
Illustrated by Brett Booth, Luciano Vecchio
Published by DC Comics

This is another crossover between a DC character and a revised Looney Tunes character. Most are blatantly unnecessary, but some are just pure fun. This one is one of those that is just pure fun.  It’s one of the better combinations that they have put out for sure.

The issue opens with The Joker doing stand up. It’s wonderfully written with some amazingly cool art from Brett Booth. His art is full of so much energy and he takes the script and owns it. The whole dynamic is just full of incredible awesomeness.

Of course, being the Joker, the crowd dies laughing with the Joker smile on their faces.

From there, the Batman arrives but then misses the Joker.

Then, by circumstance, the new version of Daffy Duck shows up and ends up on the Joker’s doorstep!

This ends up with Daffy being inducted as the lead henchmen in the Joker’s gang! It’s just nuts but somehow Lobdell and Booth make it work. Daffy even proclaims “There’s gonna be a few changeth around here.”

The Joker then commits crimes with Daffy and his gang! And they are successful! It’s blatantly off the wall and nuts. They eventually run afoul of the Batman. And then, the ending happens. And I was laughing out loud. The Lobdell and Booth part ends great and is a wonderfully cracked out story.

The second story in this is shorter and very dull. It’s almost not even worth mentioning to be honest.

Daffy goes undercover for the police and it ends badly. That’s pretty much it.

Read the first story. I’ll rate the issue on that.

RATING: A-
