This book is just sheer awesomeness. If you haven’t picked it up yet, start from the beginning and catch up. It’s completely worth it. I’ll wait.
All right. Are you all caught up? All right then. Let’s talk about the latest issue in this incredible series!
This issue opens with John Lynch driving into an Indian reservation. He gets out of the car and he sees the strangest sight. He sees an Indian floating above him. The floating Indian man glides to the ground. It turns out this man is Stephen Rainmaker. He and Lynch then share a nice drink. And the two of them just sit and talk outside.
Lynch tells Rainmaker he wants to track down and help all of those who changed and got mutated from the old days. Rainmaker tells him that he can bring them back to the reservation. Ellis makes a quiet scene like this work well. The art also really brings it home. It’s truly resonated with me.
Then the rest of the issue goes completely bonkers.
Lynch finds out that that there the enemy is still out there and that they are more powerful than ever. He then has a meeting of sorts with one. It’s very scary and a bit terrifying.
That’s because of the art by Jon Davis-Hunt. It’s so well done. His use of storytelling is spectacular. The ending is another cliffhanger but I’m okay with it because I’m so intrigued. I have no idea where it’s going but I can’t wait to find out.
Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt are both doing the best work of their respective careers here. I’m totally in love with this series. I can’t wait until it’s over so I can read it all at once.
