This issue opens with a page all about Captain Boomerang. It turns out he wasn’t lying that he was a member of the Australian Secret Service like he’s been saying the entire series. Amanda Waller finds out he wasn’t lying and the resulting scene is laugh out loud. The rest of the issue basically follows suit.
So what does Waller decide to do, what else?
She puts Boomerang undercover. Because why not right?
Someone’s planted nukes all across Australia, and it’s up to Boomerang to take them down!
He’s teamed up with an old friend named Mel to complete this mission!
What can possibly go wrong here?
Well, everything. And that’s part of the fun!
Williams makes everything nutty as usual. Things are not subtle at all and there’s no real nuance. But sometimes that’s okay. It’s fun to watch Boomerang go from scene to scene as a big doofus. How can he possibly be considered effective?
So Boomerang parachutes into Tasmania and becomes the secret agent again. It doesn’t go well. He immediately gets into a fight. After that debacle, he winds up with Mel. It leads to Boomerang meeting his son. It’s no surprise as to who it is. And then the issue ends in the silliest way possible. It felt like a weird Looney Tunes cartoon.
The story is as by the numbers as they get. The art isn’t half bad but it’s very basic. It mostly just feels like a fill in issue. The writing is strained and forced for a lot of it. But whatever. It’s silly and predictable and does offer some fun moments. It just could be a ton better but what can you do.
