I just want to start out by saying that this comic book has one of the coolest covers ever by Dan Panosian. I generally like his art but he outdid himself on this beautiful image. I seriously want a poster of it. It’s that freaking good. The rest of the issue Illustrated by Scott Kolins is pretty nice as well.
The opening of this book focuses on the villain Heatwave. We see him quickly as a young boy. Mick Rory just hung out with the wrong crowd once he got his fire powers as we are told here.
Then we cut to present day and we see that Heatwave’s powers have been amped up. He thinks that he is a god. And the Flash must try to stop him.
Kolins is the perfect artist for this type of grandiose storytelling. It’s big and loud and not at all realistic. It is, however, highly stylized and highly fun!
Heatwave is infected with the Sage Force and he’s gone nuts.
Commander Cold tries to find a way to talk Heatwave down.
It doesn’t work.
Then Barry and Detective Burns try to navigate the “”Matrix type of device” they have been hooked up to. If they don’t stop Heatwave though, things can get really bad. They might even destroy all of Central City if they fail.
The writing is fun and it’s all enjoyable. I am, however, ready for this “Sage Force” story to be over. It’s run it’s course and it’s time to move on. Williamson does a capable job writing this issue and it’s decent for sure. But I can’t wait until the next storyline starts and we are running off to a new destination on this book.
