This issue starts off with a cool little tale from Tom King and Mikel Janin which makes this book worth checking out. Superman leaves Batman a gift in the Batcave. The gift will give dfoes a great job of telling a lot of story in a very compressed time. The ending hits home, especially the last line.
The next story by Ram V and Jorge Forbes is just okay. It talks about a police officer who was a victim of the Scarecrow’s fear toxin. He tries to get past it and it’s a rather obvious story.
The next story by Cheryl Lynn Eaton and Elena Casagrande is about another victim and how she survived an attack. The art is decent but the story falters. It ends by showing how violence causes violence and it kind of beats you over the head.
The stories do get more enjoyable from here though.
The next story written by Jordie Bellaire and Illustrated by Jill Thompson fares much better. In it, Batman goes to a snowy mountain area to hunt down Man-Bat. Its well drawn and has a surprise ending. It sort of just ends but I think that was part of the point of the story.
The last story is the runner up for the best story. In it, Batman teams up with Bobo (aka Detective Chimp) to do some detective work. Tom Taylor writes a cool tale here. The artwork by Brad Walker is pretty spiffy as well. I enjoyed this short very much.
Overall, this is a mixed bag, with a tad more good than bad. They should have cut out the second and third stories and expanded on the others. But this is a enjoyable read overall.
