It’s great to see Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming still working together.
They both have a natural shorthand they really comes across on the page. This book is another feather in their collective caps. I’ve been enjoying it very much and am never really sure where it is going.
The opening sequence takes place in a grade school. One of that kids is talking about how Erica Sanchez is the fifth woman president of the United States. It’s a nice beginning and it is a good juxtaposition for the rest of the issue.
And then, everything just goes to hell.
We see the bosses talking to Jagger and Valentine Gallo. They take on the job of killing the aforementioned president. They track her down. They set up the shot. And then the most shocking thing ever happens: they actually kill the President! And then things get really out of hand!
The rest of the issue is a huge chase as the duo realize the scope of what they have done. They run for it!
This time, Oeming cuts loose on the art and it’s just plain fantastic. It’s trippy and exciting and it’s a visual treat that you have to see to believe. He and Bendis just kill it on this.
This book is just another interesting work from Bendis with a strong artist. He is trying new concepts out and just working his magic in a collaborative way. This is a book with two top notch creators at the top of their game.
