Leviathan has been making his way across this Superman title during the last few months. It’s about to lead into a big event coming up! It’s starting to look like Superman has maybe more than he can handle with this foe.
This issue is the conclusion of Leviathan’s introduction. And how is it?
It’s pretty good actually.
The first few pages have Maggie Sawyer and her team breaking into an apartment looking for a suspect named Kate Spencer. Maggie sees her and tries to arrest her and Kate retaliates and fights back.
It seems like they are trying to arrest Kate because she is the Lady Manhunter.
Kate dons her costume and makes her spectacular escape.
We are then back to where we left off in the last issue in London. Superman is furiously looking for Lois Lane.
He eventually finds her. They have both survived the attack by Leviathan and then resume their investigation. They report back to Perry. And while this is all going on Leviathan launches yet another attack.
It’s a pretty crazy attack too! Eventually Superman and Lois get away and they make it back to the Fortress of Solitude. The whole thing is a set up to the big event and the ending has the characters all asking just who is this Leviathan? And more importantly, what is Leviathan’s plans for the heroes of the DC Universe?
The story by Bendis is fairly decent although it feels a tad rushed. Leviathan also is an enigma and a threat and all. I just feel like we have seen bigger threats than this (Darkseid anyone?)
Still, the art by Epting is great. His art makes every page turn and every panel light up. This was a pretty decent issue overall. I just hope all of this build up we have been seeing leads to some place worthwhile.
