EASY A (review)

Produced by Will Gluck, Zane Devine, Mark Benton Johnson
Written by Bert V. Royal
Directed by Will Gluck
Starring Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Lisa Kudrow, Thomas Haden Church,
Amanda Bynes, Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Alyson Michalka

It’s pretty hard not to find Emma Stone charming, adorable and effervescent.

In Easy A, she manages to all three of these attributes with ease. Stone plays Olive, the kind of awesome, stunning high school “misfit” that doesn’t really exist in real life. Nevertheless, after avoiding hanging around with her friend’s crunchy family, Olive lies about a date and night of indiscretion that never actually happened. Soon, the entire school is buzzing about her promiscuous reputation and as she begins to lie about fictional sexual indiscretions to help fellow teen angst-ers or just for a gift card from Home Depot, Olive begins to get ostracized much like The Scarlet Letter’s Hester Pryne.

Stone leads an exceptional cast and the film wears it’s John Hughes influence proudly on it’s sleeve.

As a result, Easy A is smart, funny and a must see.
