WEEDS and THE BIG C renewed

Showtime’s been busy in the comedy aisle. Weeds and new show The Big C have been picked up for more seasons.

The Mary-Louise Parker-starring Weeds, now in its sixth season, has been picked up for at least 13 episodes but may get more. Get ready for more antics from the pot-dealing suburban mom Nancy Botwin.

Big C, in which Laura Linney plays cancer-stricken teacher Cathy Jamison, gets 13 more episodes. The show premiered in August with 1.154 million viewers, Showtime’s largest audience in eight years for an original series debut.

“There are definitely more comedic adventures in store for these fascinating, complex women,” Showtime president of entertainment David Nevins says.

“For six seasons, we’ve happily traveled along with Nancy Botwin and we’re equally as excited to follow Laura Linney and The Big C team as they chart Cathy’s unique journey through such a provocative and personal subject as cancer,” he said. “We’re thrilled that these two signature shows will be returning to the network in 2011.”

Weeds airs at 10 p.m. Mondays, and The Big C follows at 10:30 p.m.
