Comic News Rodeo – March 16, 2011

Lots of news today, folks, including Pretty Ponies, Science Dog, Axe Cop, Imperius Rex and Tennis!

Check it out after the jump.

And hell, tell your friends.

DC Comics releases a preview of Brightest Day #22 — the ultimate protector reveals itself against the ultimate menace! Dude, that’s ultimate.

Over at ICv2, there is a quick review of SmarterComic’s OGN The Long Tail, based on the best selling book of the same name by Chris Anderson. It’s economics – for kids!

Namor? Wussy! Stuart Moore talks about what scares the Sub-Mariner over at Marvel.com.  Turns out I was wrong, it is not wearing having to wear Speedos.

Robert Kirkman talks Science Dog with Newsarama.  I was wondering what they were going to do with all the bones from Walking Dead….

Over on his blog (which has become more and more interesting each day) Jim Shooter talks about working for Mort Weisinger and secretly joining the “Merry Marvel Marching Society”!  Oh Shooter, you so crazy!

Marvel news (well, suppositions actually): We know that Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev will be on Moon Knight in May. Over at Bleeding Cool, they “reckon” that Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto will be behind The Punisher #1. Now they are rumormongering that Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera are taking over Daredevil. We’ll find out this weekend at C2E2! Does anyone have the Vegas odds on this one? I need some quick cash.

Over at Dark Horse Comics, they’re letting you vote on who you think would win in a smackdown, Buffy Summers or River Tam.  Before I start making odds, I need to know if the track is muddy or not.

The Doug Wright Awards, Canada’s premier comic book awards, have announced their finalists for 2011.  Immonen! Immonen! Immonen!

The Axe Cop trade paperback makes it to Booklist!  Now go buy it!

Marvel has announced the July release of 15 Love, and Brandon Schatz over at Comics! The Blog figuratively schatz himself!  I have to agree with what Brandon says here though, and if you have ever read anything by Andi Watson (especially Love Fights) you will too!

Todd McFarlane interviews Stan Lee video at Comic Book Resources.  They chat about the value of comics in education, how comic conventions have changed, and how to create lasting characters.  No fistfights.

Jack Kirby does My Little Pony: Friendship is MagicComics Alliance imagines it. Ponychan posters celebrate!

WonderCon promises to go live with its full programing schedule on Monday, March 21.  The Cons Keep Coming!
