DC announces no more FLASH after issue 12

Talk about your flash-in-the-pan, DC Comics has announced that The Flash series will end with issue number 12.  The Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul reboot of the speedster has been a pretty successful series for DC.  So why the cancellation?

After spending all this time trying to reestablish Barry Allen as the fastest man alive, it seems strange to be abandoning this character’s book.  Still, the series has been building up towards DC’s next big event, Flashpoint.  Perhaps this is a logical step in The Flash’s development.  The solicitation for the May 11th issue #12 reads:

‘The Road to Flashpoint’ concludes as everything Barry Allen knows and cares about is lost. What is the Flashpoint? Find out in the upcoming Flashpoint #1!”

What is in store for Barry Allen next?  I guess we’ll either need to flash forward to May, or maybe someone at DC will have a flash of an idea (I know, I’m pushing this…) and reveal more at C2E2 or WonderCon.
