Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Lopez (Out of Sight, Selena) is in discussions to play the female lead in Parker, the latest film adaptation of Donald Wetlake’s The Hunter, the first book in the very popular mystery series.
The film will be directed by Taylor Hackford (Ray, Against All Odds) and Jason Stratham (Crank, Snatch) is set to star as Parker, a thief who has a strict moral code, but isn’t above killing a man if he deems it necessary.
The Hunter has already been adapted twice to the screen. The first adaptation was John Boorman’s (Deliverance, The Emerald Forest) Point Blank which came out in 1967 and starred Lee Marvin in the lead role (this time named Walker) and Angie Dickerson played the female lead opposite of him.
The second adaptation was 1999’s Payback written and directed by Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale, The Order) and starred Mel Gibson in the main role (this time named Porter) and Maria Bello played the female lead. There’s also a director’s cut of Payback, called Payback: Straight Up – The Director’s Cut which is out on Blu-ray and definitely worth seeking out.
Production on Parker will begin this August.
