Luke Evans (Robin Hood, Clash of the Titans) has been cast in the role of Bard the Grimm in The Hobbit, according to Deadline. This was one of the last major parts which had to be cast by director Peter Jackson. Bard’s specialty is his excellent marksmanship with the bow and arrow and he’s also the heir to Lord Girion of Dale.
Production on the Lord of the Rings prequel has already begun in New Zealand.
Evans has been up for a few high profile roles in the past few months. He was one of the finalists for the next installment of The Bourne Identity series, which ultimately went to Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town). Evans was also one of the few finalists for the role of Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby, Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom, Warriors) ended up snagging the role.
Evans will next be seen in The Three Musketeers and Immortals.
