Apple has a brief, but great featurette in which Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) and David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) talk about Terrence Malick’s (Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line) brilliant visual style and the unorthodox ways he tells his stories.
Since the reclusive Malick almost never give interviews, it’s great to hear two visionary directors speak about why Malick is one of the great film directors of all time.
The featurette works great as a promotional tool for Malick’s latest film, Tree of Life. The film stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. Set in Texas during the 1950’s, the story follows the life journey of oldest son, Jack. From his innocent childhood to his disenchanted adult life as he tries to come to terms with a difficult relationship he has with his father.
Tree of Life is currently playing in select theaters and will open nationwide on July 8th. It has already won the Palme d’ Or award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
