Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is in talks to join the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s next directorial effort, Pacific Rim. Day would be playing the role of a professor according to Variety.
Charlie Hunnan (Sons of Anarchy, Children of Men) has already been cast in the lead role in the upcoming sci-fi film about an alien attack on Earth. The story will revolve around the humans who pilot giant robots to fight off the threat.
Del Toro came aboard Rim after having his dream project of an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s In the Mountains of Madness pulled from under his feet. Madness was set up at Universal w/ del Toro set to direct, James Cameron producing, and Tom Cruise starring in the lead role, but do to a large budget and an R rating Universal got cold feet and killed the project.
Charlie Day can next be seen in this summer’s comedy, Horrible Bosses.
Production will begin this Fall on Pacific Rim.
