Stringer Bell Cast in PACIFIC RIM

idris-elba

Last week Forces of Geek reported about Charlie Day being in negotiations to play the role of a professor in Guilermo del Toro’s upcoming sci-fi flick Pacific Rim.

Now, Deadline is reporting that Idris Elba (The Wire, The Losers, Thor) has officially joined the cast of Pacific Rim. Elba has been cast in a role, originally written for Tom Cruise.

A while back, Elba had tweeted, “Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today… meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part.” Then posted another tweet stating, “I wish I could tell you more but… in due time.”

Many thought Elba was talking about meeting with Quentin Tarantino to talk about the lead role in his upcoming western, Django Unchained… apparently, not so.

Elba will be joining the already cast Charlie Hunnan (Sons of Anarchy, Children of Men) and Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) in the upcoming sci-fi film about an alien attack on Earth. The story will revolve around the humans who pilot giant robots to fight off the threat.

Elba is currently shooting Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s prequel to Alien.
