David O. Russell’s (Thee Kings, The Fighter) next film is Silver Linings Playbook and Mark Wahlberg is already set to star.
Now, Deadline reports the director wants none other than Winter’s Bone and X-Men: First Class star Jennifer Lawrence to fill the female lead role.
Lawrence must of had quite the audition, since there was some stiff competition by the likes of: Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Red Eye), Blake Lively (The Town, Green Lantern), Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs, Rachel Getting Married), Elisabeth Banks (The Next Three Days, Slither), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man films), Rooney Mara (The Social Network, the upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) , and Olivia Wilde (Tron 2, The Next Three Days).
Silver Lining Playbook will follow Pat Peoples (Mark Walhberg) a former high school teacher who has just been released from a four year run in a metal institution and moves back in with his mother. He then tries to remake himself, finding the “silver linings” in his life.
Lawrence would be playing a depressed neighbor who’s husband dies, which sends her on a casual sex spree, eventually becoming the love interest of Pat.
Lawrence is currently filming the adaptation of the highly-regraded young adult book series The Hunger Games. Production starts on Linings in the fall, which would have Lawrence finishing up The Hunger Games shoot and moving right onto Silver Linings Playbook.
