The LA Times interviewed Finding Nemo/Wall-E director Andrew Stanton about directing his first live action film, the highly anticipated John Carter. The interview also touches upon why Disney isn’t taking the film to this year’s Comic Con and Stanton’s thoughts on the visuals of the film.

Stanton also released two concept art images from the world of Barsoom where much of John Carter takes place.

John Carter is a film adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The story is based around a civil war vet who is transported to Mars, where he finds himself mixed up with 12 foot tall aliens, a princess and a world on the fringe of collapsing.

The film stars Taylor Kitsch as John Carter, as well as: James Purefoy, Mark Strong, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Cranston, Dominic West, Thomas Hayden Church, Samantha Morton and Polly Walker.

John Carter will be released in theaters on March 9, 2012.
